This is just a silly thing I ponder when I am falling asleep, relaxed, or bored.

I really liked the Muppet films where the characters would adapt a classic story from literature and play various characters from it alongside celebrity actors. Now that they’re owned by Disney, I can see them doing the same with a remake of The Princess and the Frog too!  And the more I thought about it, the more it works so well. Jim Henson was from Mississippi which inspired a lot of his work, the Muppets love to sing musical numbers which this movie has in spades, and there’s even a Muppet that’s modeled after a famous, late jazz musician from New Orleans!! Here’s the breakdown of how this could work:

- Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and Rizzo will open and close the film. Fozzie could try to be one of the guys in the already-established comedy routine Gonzo and Rizzo have, but will feel like a third wheel instead.  … maybe they’ll be tourists seeing the sights in New Orleans, dressed in oddly non-1920’s clothing.

- Tiana, her parents, Prince Naveen, Doctor Facilier, and Mama Odie are played by human actors. Ideas for who could be a good fit for which character will help.  I am open to Doctor Faciliar and Mama Odie as Muppets, but suggestions would be needed for me to be convinced. Uncle Deadly will be the best choice for Facilier if I can think up a good Mama Odie Muppet pairing with him. Tiana and Naveen will be turned into Muppet frogs like Kermit when under the magic curse.

- In this film, Tiana’s job won’t be a waitress, but as a translator for The Swedish Chef at his diner. Pepe the Prawn will be the assistant chef. Tiana’s efficient and quick but often translates stuff incorrectly, leading to Pepe forming a consistent fear of accidentally winding up in a dish himself! At the end, both are employed at her vegetarian restaurant, where he can finally be safe.

- Kermit, Robin, and his frog family will appear in the swamp scenes and effectively replace the firefly characters. Kermit will have his trademark banjo and be playing it on the log from The Muppet Movie, and will help Tiana and Naveen reverse the curse. He’ll introduce his huge family during a song similar to “Down The Bayou”. He has no infatuation with an evening star, nor does he die at the end, though Facilier almost succeeds in killing him. All the frogs help in fighting Facilier, and in return are invited to Tiana’s Palace as exclusive guests. Tiana’s Palace will be the first vegetarian-only dining establishment in town.

- Tiana’s friend Charlotte La Bouff is played by Miss Piggy. In the opening when they’re little girls, Piggy can be portrayed in her Baby Piggy form from The Muppets Take Manhattan. She’ll still dream of meeting the right man, but she will meet Kermit during the climax and fall in love with him instead, realizing that she doesn’t need a prince to be happy.

- Lawrence’s role is cut, which means Naveen will arrive at New Orleans alone, Doctor Facilier’s evil plans to claim the La Bouff fortune will be changed, and he will not woo Miss Piggy/Charlotte.

- Charlotte’s father Eli “Big Daddy” La Bouff is played by Link Hogthrob. His role will remain pretty much the same.

- Louie the alligator remains as he is in the animated film, only here he’s translated into a towering, full-body puppet similar to Earl Sinclair from the Dinosaurs TV series. He’ll have more cartoony eyes than the realistic taxidermy-style ones from that show. The suit’s outer layer including the eyes, teeth, and tongue, will be totally waterproof so he can perform underwater, along with other ground-breaking practical effect technology. Two other alligator antagonists will be the same kind of full-body puppet.

- The Dixieland band performing on the streets of New Orleans, on the ferryboat where they invite Louie to play with them, and later in Tiana’s Palace, are played by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band. Naturally, Dr. Teeth will lead vocals for the opening song “Down In New Orleans” just like Dr. John did in the animated movie. Walter will be part of the band doing whistling.

- Constantine will show up aiding Doctor Facilier by impersonating Kermit and marrying Charlotte, only this time everyone recognizes the ruse immediately and he gets thrown aside before his plan even starts, totaling his screen time to 5 seconds.

- New Muppets will play the voodoo spirits Doctor Facilier makes a contract with.

- The Fenner Brothers are played by Statler and Waldorf, whose roles remain the same.

- Rowlf the Dog will have a non-speaking role as the piano player at the masquerade ball, and on the ferryboat that Tiana and Naveen have their date on.

- Sweetums, Crazy Harry, and Lew Zealand will be the three frog hunters who Tiana and Naveen escape from.

- Bean Bunny will be the newspaper boy in the New Orleans downtown square that Big Daddy tips from his car.

- George the Janitor will be a sanitation worker shoveling manure.

- The Jim Henson Muppet will be one of the first guests to attend the grand opening of Tiana’s Palace and will sing along to the ending song.

I am still thinking of places to put the rest. I may think of original roles for them, like casting Scooter as an event coordinator of the Mardi Gras floats, and Bunsen and Beaker playing themselves as they invent an effects-heavy parade float in a skit that has no connection to the story. The background Muppets are sprinkled in and around the city of New Orleans, the masquerade ball, the Mardi Gras celebration, and the like. Scenes of Muppets dancing throughout the movie will call back to the skit “At The Dance” from “The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence”.

Deviantart Eclipse will be here soon. It's already available for beta testers, and is already looking to be A MUCH bigger revamp in the site than any of its changes before it!  I expect a ton of people to complain about how they can't use the site when it launches publicly. Maybe I will be in that group, or not. But just remember that DA is open to suggestions on fixing bugs and problems users have.



Also, a TON of new movie trailers have been released!  I don't have time to cover my opinions of them all, so here's a rundown.

Toy Story 4 - Annoyed. Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending.  Nothing else is needed.
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu - Weird, creepy and will likely be forgotten by detractors, but I am surprised it seems to be a fully realized cohesive whole.
The Missing Link - Looks like another great LAIKA classic. Trailer seems too dependent on potty humor.
Wreck-It Ralph 2 - Excited for it. Seeing it on November 30th.
Fantastic Beasts 2 - Never saw the first one. Ambivalent.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse - Excited for the first Hollywood-budgeted animated superhero movie from SONY. Getting Roger Rabbit vibes.
The Secret Life Of Pets 2 - Funny trailer. Not really looking forward to it.
Uglydolls - Annoyed severely. Cliche, committee-produced drivel.
How To Train Your Dragon 3 - Promising! Beautifully cinematic and touching. The villain looks unnecessary.
Dumbo - Looks unnecessary.
