EDIT 5/12/10- This video is featured on Cartoon Brew! [link]

[link]

The finished version of the previous video: [link] ! I may add shading to the characters to make them more believable when I have the time, but for now, it can be posted. And BOY did this take long! I did this without any tweening anyway- yes, the animation is produced in Flash. BGs are painted in Photoshop.

As you may have heard, Warner Bros. has hired AnimalLogic to animate his story BONE in CG- this video shows my take on how it would look if it were going to be produced in 2D. Sound is taken from the soundtrack of TellTale Games' video game of the series.

Reflecting on this, even though the movie will be in CG, I REALLY think they should have a little 2D in it! Like, maybe in the opening and/or closing credits... or maybe in a short sequence in the body of the film!! It worked marvelously for Kung Fu Panda, and Cloudy... and I see a growing emergence of traditionally-animated credit sequences nowadays!!! Someone should suggest this to him!

Here's to you, Jeff. BONE was the first graphic novel I ever read, and the first I religiously followed. I hope the movie is the best it can be!

BONE (C) Jeff Smith
Sound (C) TellTale Games

Fantastic animation you did :D

Fantastic! I thought it'd be the Bones be traditionaly animated, with the people in the real world, ala Roger Rabbit, with the monsters in CGI

I love this series! I wish the movie would've been made like this, I'm questioning the fact that it'll CG :\ Great animation by the way! Really smooth, like you took it off a cartoon or something 8D

Great animation. I especially like how you did Thorn and Phoney Bone. I haven't heard about the Warner Bros. movie project, but I really wish they'd do it in traditional animation rather than CG. I just can't imagine the Bone cousins looking believable in CG.

Jimminy Cricket riding a corn-cob, are you serious?? It's going to be an animated MOVIE you say? That's fantastic! And it's going to be animated in 3D you say? That's awful! Maybe not totally awful, but I always pictured it being traditionally animated. Still, a BONE movie is one of my fantasies.

You did a pretty awesome job on this, too. Love how the characters move. I think the time you put into it was well-spent, and it's a shame you won't be working on the film itself.

to be honest, i think the vibe of bone was really a 2D one. it had such awesome backgrounds, and such nice linework...it'd be a sin to 3D it...

oh hey, nice animation.

This is fantastic! I agree that 2-D seems like it would be the obvious choice for this kind of movie, but it's a good story so maybe they can pull it off!

Gah. I am still GREATLY displeased that the movie is CGI. EVERYTHING is CGI! It's driving me nuts! It's destroying Gaurdians of Ga'Hoole already (and the movie's title, AND Soren's accent, AND the plot of the movie. Booo!)

But this is just great and awesome. It makes me desire a 2D movie badly :(

That. Was. Epic. :|

I wasn't expecting this when I clicked the thumbnail... Oh no, most definitely not... oh my gosh man, let's all hope the real movie that comes out soon will be as awesome like this. I agree, even though if it's gonna be CGI, some traditional parts would be awesome. I've seen that a lot lately with CGI animated movies.

You should show this to Jeff Smith himself, I'm sure he'll be impressed.

I loved, loved, LOVED those expressions. Especially Phoney's. xD That's some top-notch animation there. Are you in the business or somethin'? 'Cuz it looks so professional. :3

Very nice character animation- you did a excellent job of capturing Fone Bone and Phoney's personalities. I love the look Fone Bone's giving him, HE SEES WHAT YOU DID THERE.
Jeff Smith is such a brilliant comic artist, it's a shame they're not doing it in 2D but at least Animal Logic is a very capable lot.
Out of interest, how long did this take you to do?

I did it in hour-long increments because it was on my free time, so it took longer than it would've if this were a contract job. But overall, it look like 4 weeks.
